What Is the EEI TECH Test?

TECH stands for Technician Occupations Selection System. It is an EEI pre-employment selection battery for technician pathways in the electric power industry. It is an aptitude-style hiring assessment, not a professional engineering examination, technician license, electrical license, telecommunications certification, laboratory certification, operator license, or plant-specific technical qualification course.

What Jobs Use TECH?

Current EEI Employment Test Batteries documentation associates TECH with technician jobs that typically require an associate degree and lists examples such as:

• environmental or chemistry technician;
• distribution planning technician;
• communications or telecommunications technician;
• drafter;
• estimator.

These are illustrative official examples rather than a complete list. Not every job title containing “technician” uses TECH. Some employers may use another EEI battery or add interviews, physical stages, background screening, or later credentials. Claims that TECH is used for instrument and controls technicians should be confirmed from current employer materials rather than assumed from third-party lists alone.

Does EEI Administer TECH Directly?

No. Current EEI Industry Training and Testing guidance states that EEI supplies tests to participating member companies and does not administer tests directly to applicants. Applicants deal with the hiring electric company. EEI does not provide results directly to applicants. Candidates who previously completed an EEI test should notify the new hiring company.

Is TECH the Same as Test 5107?

Some third-party materials, including JobTestPrep, call the battery TECH 5107 or EEI TECH Test 5107. The current EEI Employment Test Batteries overview checked for this guide identifies Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) and does not present 5107 as a consumer-facing universal name in the extracted public description. Practice diagrams on this page are fictional campus-style grids only. They are not real utility maps, substation plans, transmission diagrams, or critical-infrastructure layouts.

Mechanical Concepts

Useful introductory aptitude themes include force, motion, gravity, levers, pulleys, gears, belts, friction, pressure, heat transfer, simple circuits, and physical relationships. This is not occupational repair or utility-operation instruction.

Reasoning from Rules

This format may require reading an artificial rule set, applying conditions in order, recognizing exceptions, distinguishing “and” from “or”, and avoiding outside knowledge. Practice rule systems here are harmless fictional office, library, and room-booking rules. They are not emergency, chemical, security, or plant-operation procedures.

How Many Questions Are on TECH?

JobTestPrep currently markets two full-length simulations with 83 questions each and describes the exam as having just over 80 questions across four sections. It also states Graphic Problem Solving has 21 questions and Mechanical Concepts has 44 questions. It does not publish complete item counts for Interpreting Diagrams and Reasoning from Rules on the sellbox summary. Do not invent the missing counts by subtracting from 83. Treat 83 as JobTestPrep’s simulation design unless your invitation or employer brochure states a count.

How Long Is TECH?

JobTestPrep states that TECH takes about one hour and gives partial section timings (for example, about 19 minutes for Graphic Problem Solving and about 20 minutes for Mechanical Concepts). Those two published section clocks alone already total 39 minutes before the remaining sections, instructions, check-in, or breaks. Because the product page does not publish a complete official section-time table, this guide does not present “exactly one hour” as a universal EEI public fact. Are the Sections Timed Separately?

How Is TECH Scored?

EEI public materials emphasize that hiring companies handle applicant results. JobTestPrep describes an index score from 1 to 10, machine and hand scoring, and competitive filtering. Treat that scoring language as third-party wording unless your employer materials confirm it. Employers can set their own validated standards.

What Score Do You Need?

There is no universal public cutoff that should be assumed for every utility and vacancy. JobTestPrep’s claim that most utilities expect an 8 or 9 is not treated here as independently verified national EEI policy. Practice scores do not predict advancement, interviews, credentials, or offers.

Will You Receive Your Exact Score?

EEI does not provide results directly to applicants. The hiring utility controls whether you receive a numeric score, index language, or only progression / non-progression messaging.

Can TECH Scores Be Transferred?

Prior EEI testing may sometimes be considered by another company, but transfer is not automatic. Notify the new hiring utility and follow its authorization process. Entergy, for example, currently directs candidates who previously passed the required test elsewhere to complete an EEI Authorization to Release form. JobTestPrep’s broader claim that scores are generally not transferable should be read as a caution, not as proof that no employer ever reviews a prior EEI result. The receiving company decides.

What Is the TECH Retest Policy?

Waiting periods and attempt limits are utility-specific. Do not publish 30 days or two attempts per 12 months as a universal EEI rule.

Entergy example only: Entergy currently states that a minimum of 30 days must pass between the first and second attempt on the same EEI test, and that applicants may not take the same test more than twice in a twelve-month period. Confirm every employer’s current rule on that employer’s materials.
