Wonderlic Select includes a timed cognitive ability assessment, but its current scoring should not be described as a simple public “number correct out of 50” score.
Wonderlic’s current product page says the cognitive section contains 50 questions in 12 minutes. It also says its scoring algorithm uses the candidate’s overall response pattern and additionally weights question difficulty and the impact of guessing. Wonderlic explicitly contrasts this with a score based only on total number correct.
That distinction matters. A raw tally from a practice set can help you track your own preparation, but it is not an official current Wonderlic Select cognitive score.
For a current Wonderlic Select assessment, do not convert a practice raw score into an employer cutoff, percentile, hiring probability, or supposed official score.
Current Wonderlic Select Cognitive Format

Always follow the instructions in your own invitation and live assessment if they differ from general candidate materials.
Why “30 out of 50” Is Not a Current Wonderlic Select Score
A practice test may give you a raw count such as:
30 correct out of 50
That is useful as practice tracking. It tells you how many items you answered correctly in that particular practice set.
It does not prove that Wonderlic Select would report a cognitive score of 30. Current Wonderlic scoring is more complex than total correct, and the live item sequence, item difficulty, guessing behavior, job context and reporting model are not reproduced by an independent practice page.
Older Wonderlic discussions and third-party preparation materials often use raw-number language. Treat that as legacy or practice context unless the employer or Wonderlic documentation for your exact assessment explicitly uses it.
Does Wonderlic Select Have a Universal Good Score?
No public single “good Wonderlic score” applies to every current Select hiring process.
Wonderlic Select is designed to support job-specific hiring decisions. Wonderlic explains that different jobs require different knowledge, skills and abilities, so the relative weight of cognitive ability, motivation and personality can vary according to the job.
This means statements such as these are unsafe as universal current guidance:
- “20 is average for every job”;
- “30 always passes”;
- “35 guarantees an interview”;
- “a particular percentile always advances.”
The employer and Wonderlic configuration determine how results are used in a specific hiring process.
What Does the Employer Receive?
Employers receive Wonderlic Select results designed for hiring decisions. The exact report and decision process belong to the employer and Wonderlic configuration.
Candidates should not assume they will receive the same report, a raw cognitive number, a percentile, or an employer benchmark. If you want to know what feedback is available, ask the employer or follow the candidate guidance provided with your assessment.
Current Wonderlic Select Scoring Versus Practice Scoring
| Practice metric | What it can tell you | What it cannot tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Number correct | Accuracy on that practice set | Official Select cognitive score |
| Questions attempted | Your pacing | Employer benchmark |
| Error types | Where you lose time or accuracy | Hiring probability |
| Timed practice trend | Whether your execution is becoming more consistent | Official percentile |
| Third-party predicted score | A preparation estimate | Wonderlic’s proprietary result |
Use practice data diagnostically rather than as a hiring forecast.
How to Interpret Your Practice Results
A useful review has three parts.
1. Accuracy
Count correct and incorrect responses in the practice set. Then identify whether errors came from arithmetic, vocabulary, logic, spatial reasoning, reading, or time pressure.
2. Pacing
Wonderlic Select is speeded. Track how far you progress in 12 minutes without turning that count into an official score prediction.
3. Decision quality
Wonderlic’s official sample says random guessing is not likely to improve your result and advises candidates not to skip around. In practice, work on making a reasonable best choice and moving forward instead of repeatedly returning to earlier questions.
What If Another Website Shows Wonderlic Percentile Tables?
Treat unofficial conversion tables cautiously.
Before relying on a table, ask:
- Which Wonderlic product does it describe?
- Is it current Wonderlic Select or an older product/version?
- Is the table published by Wonderlic?
- Which norm group does it use?
- Does your employer actually use that interpretation?
A table built from an older raw-score model should not be presented as the official current Select scoring algorithm.
Is There a Wonderlic Passing Score?
There is no single public passing score that applies to every current Wonderlic Select employer and job.
An employer may use Select information alongside other hiring evidence and job-specific requirements. The correct source for a required threshold, if one exists, is the employer or the official assessment process—not a generic internet score chart.
Can You Improve Your Wonderlic Score With Practice?
Practice can help you become familiar with common reasoning tasks, recognize avoidable mistakes, and rehearse working within a short time limit. It cannot guarantee a higher official result or a hiring outcome.
A sound preparation goal is:
- understand the 50-question / 12-minute structure;
- practice arithmetic, logic, language and spatial reasoning;
- work without unauthorized aids;
- become comfortable making a best choice and moving forward;
- review mistakes rather than memorizing recalled items;
- sleep and prepare your test environment.
Optional Third-Party Practice
After confirming that your invitation names Wonderlic, independent timed practice can help with format familiarity.
JobTestPrep Wonderlic preparation is a third-party commercial option. JobTestPrep is not Wonderlic or the hiring employer. Its practice scores and simulations are not official Wonderlic Select scoring reports and cannot guarantee progression.
