Predictive Index Assessment is an umbrella term. The two main candidate assessments are the PI Behavioral Assessment and the PI Cognitive Assessment. Employers may assign one or both. Behavioral is an untimed free-choice adjective questionnaire that usually takes approximately six minutes. It has no conventional right or wrong answers. Cognitive contains 50 questions with a 12-minute limit and measures verbal, numerical, and abstract reasoning. Employers control targets and hiring decisions.
JobTestPrep provides independent third-party preparation. JobTestPrep is not The Predictive Index or the hiring employer.
The practice material on this page is entirely original. It does not reproduce an official Predictive Index, employer, or JobTestPrep adjective, item, question, diagram, scoring key, factor algorithm, Reference Profile formula, Cognitive Target, report, norm table, or live assessment form.
The Behavioral exercises on this page are unscored familiarization activities. They have no correct answers and will not generate a PI Behavioral Pattern, factor score, Reference Profile, Behavioral Target match, M factor, or job-fit result.

What Is the Predictive Index Assessment?
The Predictive Index provides workplace assessment products used for hiring and people decisions. A generic Predictive Index invitation may mean Behavioral, Cognitive, or another PI process. Confirm the exact product names in your invitation.
Is Predictive Index One Test or Two Assessments?
It is not one universal test. Employers may assign Behavioral only, Cognitive only, both, or another configuration. Do not assume every candidate receives the same battery.

What Is the PI Behavioral Assessment?
According to current official PI materials, the PI Behavioral Assessment is an untimed, free-choice, stimulus-response tool that measures natural workplace behavioral drives and needs. It is designed for employment use and is not a clinical diagnostic test.
Related narrow guide: Predictive Index Personality Test.
How Does PI Behavioral Work?
Candidates answer two questions using one shared adjective list:
- select adjectives that describe how they are expected to behave at work;
- select adjectives they would actually use to describe themselves.
This page does not reproduce the official adjective list.
How Long Does PI Behavioral Take?
Current official materials state that it typically takes about six minutes to complete.
Is PI Behavioral Timed?
Official materials describe it as untimed, while still estimating about six minutes for completion.
Does PI Behavioral Have Right or Wrong Answers?
No. It is not a conventional knowledge test with one correct answer key.
What Are the Four PI Behavioral Factors?
Dominance
Workplace approach to control, independence, influence, and decision-making. Higher is not universally better.
Extraversion
Workplace communication, persuasion, and engagement with others - not purely personal social life.
Patience
Preferred pace, consistency, stability, and response to change - not politeness as a moral trait.
Formality
Preference for rules, structure, precision, and established expectations. Lower Formality is not automatically carelessness.
What Are PI Reference Profiles?
Reference Profiles are descriptive groupings from Behavioral results. Official PI materials present them as snapshots of how people naturally think and work, not as clinical diagnoses or complete personal identities.
The 17 PI Reference Profiles
Current official PI Reference Profiles resources list 17 profiles:
- Adapter
- Altruist
- Analyzer
- Artisan
- Captain
- Collaborator
- Controller
- Guardian
- Individualist
- Maverick
- Operator
- Persuader
- Promoter
- Scholar
- Specialist
- Strategist
- Venturer
See the official Reference Profiles overview.
Is One Reference Profile Better Than Another?
No. Profiles are not pass or fail categories. Role requirements differ. A profile does not guarantee job fit.
What Is a Behavioral Target?
Employers may define behavioral requirements for a role and compare candidate patterns with those requirements. Targets vary and are employer-controlled. This page does not publish confidential target values.
What Is the PI M Factor?
JobTestPrep advertises an M Factor Guide inside its Predictive Index package. Current public candidate-facing PI Behavioral pages reviewed for this guide do not provide a clear standalone official M-factor interpretation for applicants. Treat the JobTestPrep guide as package content only. Do not use third-party M advice to manipulate adjective quantity or response style.
Can You Fail PI Behavioral?
There is no conventional correct-answer pass mark. An employer may still decide not to progress a candidate for role-related process reasons.
What Is the PI Cognitive Assessment?
According to current official materials, the PI Cognitive Assessment is a 12-minute, 50-question assessment of general cognitive ability for workplace use, reflecting speed and accuracy. Related guides: PI Cognitive Assessment and PI Cognitive Score Explained.
Is PI Cognitive the Same as PLI?
Predictive Index Cognitive Assessment is the current product name. Professional Learning Indicator (PLI) is commonly used as legacy naming for the same product family in older materials and third-party pages. Confirm the name shown in your invitation.
How Many Questions Are on PI Cognitive?
50 questions, according to current official PI Cognitive materials.
How Long Is PI Cognitive?
12 minutes, according to current official PI Cognitive materials.
How Much Time Is Available per Question?
On average, about 14.4 seconds per question across the whole assessment. That average does not prove each item has its own timer. Follow the live interface.
What Does PI Cognitive Measure?
Learning potential, problem solving, adaptability, and capacity to handle cognitive complexity through verbal, numerical, and abstract reasoning.
PI Cognitive Verbal Reasoning
Ability to understand and analyze written information and relationships among words or statements. Exact subtype mix can vary by form.
PI Cognitive Numerical Reasoning
Working with numbers and quantitative relationships quickly and accurately. Do not assume a calculator is allowed.
PI Cognitive Abstract Reasoning
Identifying patterns and solving novel visual or logical problems.
Is PI Cognitive Adaptive?
Official materials describe a linear-on-the-fly (LOFT) design that gives candidates a unique set of items. That is not the same as confirming classical adaptive difficulty. Do not assume CAT-style ability adaptation unless your administrator says otherwise.
What Does LOFT Mean?
Linear-on-the-fly design is PI’s published description for assembling unique item sets. Official security notes also mention screen blurring and copy-paste blocking if a candidate navigates away. Follow live rules. Do not attempt to bypass security features.
Can You Skip Questions?
Public materials do not provide one universal candidate instruction that applies to every interface version. Follow the live assessment instructions.
Can You Return to Previous Questions?
Not publicly confirmed as a universal rule. Follow the live instructions.
Are Wrong Answers Penalized?
Official marketing emphasizes speed and accuracy. A separate additional wrong-answer penalty beyond marking items incorrect was not confirmed as a universal published rule on the reviewed Cognitive page. Follow live scoring rules if stated.
Can You Use a Calculator?
The invitation and live instructions control. Do not assume calculator use.
Can You Use Scratch Paper?
The invitation and live instructions control. Confirm before you start.
Is PI Cognitive Proctored?
Official materials state support for proctored and unproctored formats. Your invitation controls.
How Is PI Cognitive Scored?
Scores reflect speed and accuracy on objectively evaluated items. Employers may compare results with a Cognitive Target. Do not treat third-party conversion tables as official PI scoring. Unsupported public claims such as a fixed 100-to-450 scale or a universal average of 250 are not presented here as verified official PI facts from the pages reviewed for this guide.
What Is a Cognitive Target?
An employer-defined cognitive requirement for a role. Targets vary and are not one universal public cutoff.
What Is a Good PI Cognitive Score?
It depends on the employer, role, and target. A practice score is not a hiring prediction.
What Is the PI Cognitive Passing Score?
There is no universal public passing score for every employer and role.
Will You Receive Your PI Results?
Result release is employer-controlled. Not every candidate receives a personal report copy.
Can You Retake a Predictive Index Assessment?
No single universal public retest rule covering every employer was verified. Follow administrator guidance.
PI Behavioral versus PI Cognitive
Behavioral is untimed, adjective-based, and pattern-oriented. Cognitive is timed, objectively scored, and reasoning-oriented. Do not convert a Behavioral profile into a Cognitive score.
Predictive Index versus Criteria CCAT
Both are timed employment cognitive tests, but they are different products. See CCAT vs PI Cognitive and Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test.
Predictive Index versus Wonderlic
Different providers and formats. See Wonderlic Practice Test and Wonderlic vs PI Cognitive.
Predictive Index versus Hogan
Hogan and PI are different assessment systems. See Hogan Assessment.
Predictive Index versus Caliper
Caliper and PI are separate commercial systems. See Caliper Assessment.
How to Prepare for Predictive Index Assessments
- Confirm whether the invitation names Behavioral, Cognitive, PLI, or both.
- Confirm deadline, language, browser, device, identification, and proctoring rules.
- Confirm calculator and scratch-paper rules for Cognitive.
- Request accommodations early when needed.
- Use official PI information for live rules.
- Understand the two Behavioral prompts and read adjectives carefully.
- Select adjectives honestly. Do not try to manufacture a Reference Profile or match a confidential Behavioral Target.
- Review verbal relationships, mental arithmetic, percentages, ratios, sequences, and abstract patterns.
- Build accuracy before extreme speed, then add short timed drills.
- Review incorrect objective answers.
- Do not memorize recalled items, use AI during the live assessment, or share live content.
- Follow employer and PI instructions.

Sellbox contents currently advertise: a PI Cognitive diagnostic with personalized feedback; 5 full PI Cognitive simulations; Factor Recognition practice; Factor Hierarchy practice; PI Golden Rules practice; 41 PI Cognitive practice tests (numerical, verbal, abstract/visual); and 15 study guides and video tutorials, plus Behavioral prep materials described in the course breakdown (Behavioral Guide, M Factor Guide, adjective-selection familiarization, and a behavioral simulation snapshot).
The same page’s course-content table and FAQ currently list a comprehensive initial diagnostic, a personalized Cognitive diagnostic, 43 extra PI Cognitive practice tests, and 11 study guides and video tutorials. Because 41 versus 43 and 15 versus 11 conflict, treat those figures as live commercial marketing that should be confirmed inside the purchased account rather than as one settled inventory count. FAQ copy states unlimited practice attempts during the access period, saved progress, performance tracking, account access by email login after payment, extension by contacting customer support, and refund details on JobTestPrep terms pages. Exact authenticated questions-per-simulation timing was not independently confirmed outside public marketing; JobTestPrep descriptions should not be treated as official PI forms.
Do not follow third-party advice to match adjectives to job needs. Do not treat Golden Rules content as official PI scoring instructions. Personalized diagnostic feedback is educational JobTestPrep output, not an official PI report.
JobTestPrep is an independent third-party preparation provider. It is not The Predictive Index, the hiring employer, or the official assessment administrator. Its Behavioral exercises, adjective guidance, Cognitive simulations, diagnostic reports, score feedback, guides, videos, suggested approaches, and practice questions are not official PI adjective lists, items, factor scores, Reference Profiles, Behavioral Targets, Cognitive Targets, scaled scores, norm tables, reports, or employer decisions.
Review the current Predictive Index Behavioral and Cognitive preparation package
If you need Cognitive-only practice, a separate product remains purchasable: Review JobTestPrep’s standalone PI Cognitive preparation. The bundle remains the principal recommendation when both assessments may be assigned.
Free versus Paid Preparation
Free preparation can help you identify the assigned assessment, understand Behavioral versus Cognitive, learn the four factors and Reference Profiles, practise original reasoning questions, and locate official PI resources.
Paid preparation may help when the verified JobTestPrep bundle provides Behavioral format guides, Cognitive diagnostics and simulations, related reasoning drills, explanations, progress tracking, and repeated attempts during the purchased window.
Do not guarantee a Reference Profile, Cognitive score, interview, promotion, or job.
